Peggy (Marguerite Rose) Koehler

1923 - 2009

Former Hayden resident Peggy Koehler, born Marguerite Rose Jackson on Sept. 1, 1923, in Minneapolis, passed away Nov. 19, 2009. She was raised in Navarre, Minn., on Lake Minnetonka, by her mother, Irene, and father, Peter. Her path took her to Wright’s Field, Ohio, during World War II, where she met and married her husband of 36 years, Stanley John Koehler. After raising their family in Denver, Peggy and Stan moved to Cortez in 1974, where her husband preceded her in death.
Peggy remained in Cortez for many years after and then spent several years in Hayden, and her final years in the home of her daughter Robin and son-in-law Mike, of Centennial.
Peggy’s life revolved around family, friends and service, and her endeavors included volunteer work at the Ridge Home (with the Twenty Grand Girls club) and with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. She enjoyed a long career in the Cortez school district as a secretary and administrative assistant. Along with her husband she took pleasure in travel and saw much of the western United States from a station wagon, pop-up camper in tow. Her later years were highlighted with numerous elder hostel adventures and by special trips abroad with her sister Patty and brother-in-law Bob. Peggy was an avid reader and an aspiring creative writer. She loved writing letters and receiving answers from friends made near and far.
She is survived by her sister, Patty Lee, of Walnut Creek, Calif; children Steven Mark Koehler, Robin Irene Donegan, and Karl Conrad Koehler; and grandchildren Hailee, Katy, Molly, Rachael, Jenna, Seth, Erin and Jack.
A memorial service for Peggy was scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 25 at The Hudson Gardens in Littleton.
