Gus C. Antonio
February 3, 1946 - September 6, 2008
Gus C. Antonio of Pekin, Ill., passed away Sept. 6, 2008, at Pekin Hospital. He was 85.
Born Aug. 13, 1923, to Christ G. and Gramatiki (Haralampakis) Antonio, he married Angeline Panagakis on Feb. 3, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa. She died Feb. 20, 1997, in Pekin, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John C. Antonio.
Surviving are one son, Chris C. Antonio of Steamboat Springs; three daughters, Kay P. Sutton and her husband Steve of Pekin, Ill.; Paula J. Woo and her husband Mike of Peoria Heights, Ill.; and Connie G. Friday and her husband Richard of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Jennifer K. Anderson and her husband Dale of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Kim T. Turner and her husband Chad of Glen Carbon, Ill.; Stephen C. Woo, and his wife Katie Ciccodicola of Alexandria, Va.; and Stephen M. Sutton of Pekin, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Katie Anderson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and his twin brother, Matthew Antonio of Denver.
Gus and his wife were owners and operators of the Little Star Cleaners until they retired in 1988. Gus was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Pekin and Pekin Elks Lodge #1271. He also was a former member of the Downtown Business Association, the Jaycees, Marigold Festival Executive Committee and the Pekin Housing Authority Board. Gus and his wife were past grand marshals of the Christmas parade held in downtown Pekin.
He was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria, where he served as a board member for many years. He also served the church as a member of the Homer Society and of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association.
His funeral was held Sept. 10 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria, Ill.. Father John Sardis officiated. Visitation was held Sept. 9 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, along with a Trision prayer service. Burial was at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
