Carey Trantham

Bertha May Montgomery Trantham passed away March 8, 2008. She was 93.
Carey William Trantham passed away April 13, 2008. He was 97.
Bertha May Montgomery Trantham was born in Yampa to Merrill I. Montgomery and Lulu E. Orr Montgomery on June 6, 1914. She attended school in Yampa, graduating in 1932. She attended Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley and taught country school in the Yampa area and at public schools in Phippsburg and Craig.
Carey Trantham was born in Williard, Mo., to Levi A. Trantham and Myrtle M. Bird Trantham on Sept. 10, 1910. The family moved to Yampa to take over the ranching operation of Albert Bird. Carey attended school in Yampa, graduating in 1929. He worked with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad.
Carey and Bertha were married Dec. 21, 1936, in Yampa. They had three children, David, Duane and Carey.
In 1956, they moved to Craig, where Carey continued with the D & RG Railroad and Bertha taught in the Moffat County School System.
In 2001, they sold their home in Craig and moved to Grand Junction, where they lived until moving to Denver in 2006.
They are survived by two sons, David of Aurora and Carey (Carole) of Shellsburg, Iowa; four grandchildren, Duane of Aurora, Denise (Matt) Schurr of Centennial, Blake (Lisa) Trantham of Stillwater, Minn., and Alexis (KÃ ¥re) Morken of Almenning, Norway; and three great grandchildren, Noah Schurr, Elias and Kristian Morken.
Services were held May 17, 2008, at the Yampa Bible Church in Yampa.
