Former Clark resident Prentice Laroyce "Tex" Downing died June 16, 2008, in Parker. He was 68.
Tex was born May 27, 1940, in Paducah, Texas, to Miranda and Bynum Downing. In 1958, he graduated from Levelland High School in Levelland, Texas.
Tex worked as an engineer for GTE Telecommunications in Southern California, moving to Parker after his retirement, where he did general construction work.
Tex did community volunteer work in Elbert County and was a member of the Kiowa Lions Club. He also represented the Republican Committee at local and state levels. He spent a lot of time fishing and enjoying the mountains at his home in Clark.
Tex is survived by his daughter Deanne Bell and her husband Steven, of Clovis, Calif.; son Paul Downing of Carlsbad, N.M.; granddaughter Carissa Gomez of Aztec, N.M.; sisters Jonelle Mixon of Littlefield, Texas, and Laverne Rust of Levelland, Texas; and brother Legrand Downing, and his wife Jan, of Phoenix.
Services were held Saturday. Funeral arrangements were handled by Parker Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his memory to the Kiowa Lions Club.
