Herbert Luce

Former Routt County resident Herbert "Herb" Luce Jr. passed away May 17, 2008, in Durango.
Herb was a carpenter, ski patrolman, Portland Sea Dogs ticket taker, teacher, river rafter and snow cat driver during his career. He grew up in Hudson, Ohio, and attended Allegheny College in Meadeville, Pa., where he excelled in football and earned a master's degree in geology.
He was a carpenter for Fair & Square Construction in Clark, and he also operated a snow cat at Howelsen Hill.
Herb had a sudden heart attack on May 17, 2008, while driving his truck in Durango.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Esther Luce, and his father, Herbert Austin Luce.
He is survived by his brother, Ned Luce; his sister, Ruth Light; and his dog, Bezoar.
Herb will be missed for his sense of humor, his love of the outdoors, and his strong friendship.
