Myron Kelly Klumker
December 17, 1915 - July 19, 2007
Former Toponas resident Myron Kelly Klumker went to join our Lord on July 19, 2007.
Kelly was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Arvada to Martin and Ida Rose Fitzgerald Klumker and was the third of five children. He graduated from Arvada High School and went to work for his sister, Helen, and her husband, George, on a ranch at Toponas. He later purchased the ranch from them.
While working there, he met his future bride, Georgia (Perry) Klumker. They were married Dec. 23, 1936, in Arvada before returning to the ranch at Toponas. Upon purchase of another ranch in the same area, they moved and spent 36 years there before selling and relocating to Glenwood, N.M., in 1974. They purchased two ranches in the Alma area, finally retiring in 1987.
Kelly was very active in promoting the agriculture industry and was a strong advocate of water and soil conservation. He was a longtime member of the Farm and Livestock Bureau, and the Klumker family was awarded the prestigious Farm Bureau Family of the Year in 2001. He was a board member and chairman for the Agriculture Stabilization Committee, which oversees soil and water practices. Kelly was awarded a Certificate of Merit for outstanding accomplishment from the Routt County Conservation District. In this capacity, Kelly worked with various state governors, the Secretary of Agriculture, the BLM, the EPA and National Study Commission on Water Quality. He also belonged to the Cattlemen's Association and various other organizations. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a communicant of the Santo Nino Parish in Glenwood, N.M. He served as a school board member for many years as well. He always was ready to help his neighbors.
