Linda Jean Valenzuela-Hawkins

Yampa resident Linda Jean Valenzuela died suddenly in her home on Jan. 8, 2007. She was 55.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1951, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Francisco Leon and Violet (Chinn) Valenzuela. She was raised and attended school in Manhattan Beach, Calif., where she graduated from Aviation High School. After high school, Linda attended Santa Barbara City College and received her certification as a licensed vocational nurse.
Linda married Michael R. Hawkins on Jan. 8, 1972, in Santa Monica and to this union a son, Jeremey, was born. They lived in various places including Ventura, Santa Barbara and Buellton, Calif., before moving to Delta in 1997 and from there to Craig, and in 2003 to Yampa.
Linda was a homemaker, a licensed vocational nurse and most recently worked as a housekeeper for a hotel. She enjoyed bicycling and playing the guitar and was very proud that her son Jeremey was a police officer for the town of Parachute.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Hawkins, of Yampa; her son, Jeremey and his wife, Tabitha Hawkins, of Parachute; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Russell, Zachary, Kelsey and Aliyah; sisters, Shirley, and Debbi and her husband, John, of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; twin brothers, Ronald, and his wife, Emelda Valenzuela, of Rockport, Md., and Larry, and his wife, Kathy Valenzuela, of Orange, Calif.; father-in-law, Edwin Hawkins, of Ventura, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 16, 2007, at The Yampa Bible Church in Yampa with Pastor Bruce Chikalla officiating. Musical numbers were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross" sung by the congregation, accompanied by Gene Sanders. Pallbearers were Michael Hawkins, Jeremey Hawkins, Doug Morris, John McCavey, Clancy Scott Williamson and Nathan Rounds. Cremation followed the service.
