Longtime Phippsburg resident Mary Magdalen Edgar died Jan. 22, 2007, at the Doak Walker Care Center. She was 90.
Mary Magdalen Saindon was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Zurich, Kan., to Fredrick Joseph and Leona (Filitrault) Saindon. She was raised and attended school in Zurich and also lived in Concordia and Topeka, Kan.
Mary married Alfred Edgar on July 20, 1936, in Manhattan, Kan., and to this union two children were born. They moved to Aspen, where they lived in a tent and later moved to Yampa and then to Phippsburg, where she lived in the same home for more than 60 years.
Mary enjoyed quilting, cooking and caring for her home and her family. She was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Oak Creek and also belonged to its Altar and Rosary Society.
Mary had been a resident of the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs since September 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; four brothers; her husband, Alfred; and her grandson, Neil.
She is survived by her daughter, Nina, and her husband, Robert Woodcock, of Westminster; son, Ronald Edgar of Yampa; grandchildren, Crystal, Ronald, Debra, Judith, Melinda, Bret, Philip and Joel; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Zachary, Joshua, Hannah, Jacob, Wesley and Lauren; brothers, Fred Saindon of Fayetteville, Ark., and Royce Saindon of Arvada.
Funeral services were held Jan. 26, 2007, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Oak Creek with Father Ernest Bayer officiating. Musical numbers were "Amazing Grace," "Shepherd Me O God," "The Lord's Prayer," "Ave Maria," "Song of Farewell" and "The Prayer of St. Francis," which were sung by Belinda Rossi. Pallbearers were Joel, Phil, Bob, Tyler and Bret Woodcock and Brandon Beck. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Moshbacher, Royce, Ricky and Randy Saindon. Interment followed in the Yampa Cemetery.
