William Murphy
August 26, 1928 - December 16, 2007
William D. "Bill" Murphy died Dec. 16, 2007, at the Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Craig following a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Bill was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Hayden to Homer D. and Mary (Comstock) Murphy. Bill was raised and attended school in Hayden.
Bill married Shirley M. Doolin on May 15, 1953, in Craig, and together they became the parents of five children. The family made their home in Hayden, and Bill worked as a rancher, heavy equipment operator and a mechanic.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and working on his truck.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Murphy of Hayden; daughters, Patricia (Sam) Montieth of Craig and Cindy J. Murphy of Hayden; son Michael (Dianna) Murphy of Hayden; grandchildren, April Montieth, Jody H. Walz, Billy Jack Howard, H.J. (Kristen) Howard, Zane Bowdish, Roy Silver, David Silver, Michelle and Justin Pike, Calvin (Andi) Murphy and Amanda Tucker; numerous great-grandchildren; sister Rose Warner of Cody, Wyo.; and brother Lawrence Murphy of Hayden.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Homer D. and Mary Murphy; his sisters Betty J. Murphy, Mary Alice Bridge and Cathy Healy; his brothers Homer D. and Glen Murphy; his daughter Sherry Lorene Hunter; his son Jerry Murphy; and his grandsons Dwayne Montieth and Baby Rick LeBlanc.
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services were held Dec. 21, 2007, at Mission of Grace Baptist Church in Hayden with Pastor Doug Zirkle officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Jerry R. Murphy Music Scholarship Fund at Hayden High School in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, CO 81625.
