1931 - 2006
Part-time Steamboat Springs resident Josephine "Jo" H. Rubsamen died Oct. 27, 2006, at her residence. She was 75.
She was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Floresville, Texas, to the late Tom Howard and Josephine Howard of Pleasanton, Texas.
She spent her childhood in Wilson and Atascosa counties. She attended Hockaday Junior College and graduated from the University of Texas, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Mrs. Rubsamen was a longtime resident of Corpus Christi and was a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Pius X and was recently inducted into the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. She served on the Board of Directors of the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, for which she was president from 1996 to 1998.
She was an active member of the Corpus Christi Junior League and volunteered extensively within the community, particularly in the areas of alcohol and drug abuse.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Patrick E. Rubsamen and his wife, Merilynn McCullough, and their three grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher and Joseph Rubsamen all of Delray Beach, Fla.; daughter, Simona R. Hellinger and her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Simona Paige, all of San Diego; son, Scott T. Rubsamen and his wife, Cynthia Potter, and their children, Patrick and Anne Rubsamen, all of San Antonio; a sister, Tommye Marzano of Chaumont, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses from VistaCare Hospice and her kind personal caregivers, Ellie Garza, Ms. Quinn, Lucy Valdez and Diana Rodriguez.
A funeral Mass was held Nov. 4, 2006, at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Visitation was held Nov. 3, 2006, at the Seaside Funeral Home.
Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
