Wells Fargo warns customers about phishing scams

— Routt County residents should be aware of at least two scams being reported by customers of Wells Fargo bank.

Some customers have received an email that appears to be from Wells Fargo and states the customer's online banking password has been reset because it was entered incorrectly too many times. The email prompts customers to click a link and enter personal information such as bank account and social security numbers.

Wells Fargo's Wade Gebhardt said some customers in recent weeks also had been contacted by phone by a person phishing for similar personal information.

"You just always need to be careful," Gebhardt said. "Unless you initiate the contact, don't give out personal information over the telephone."

Gebhardt recommended customers visit the bank's website for detailed examples of frauds. People can do an Internet search for "Wells Fargo fraud information center" to find the site.

Gebhardt recommended people forward scam emails to reportphish@wellsfargo.com.
