Weekend holiday activities planned in Hayden

Matt Stensland

— The holiday season is ramping up this weekend in Hayden with a series of events.

On Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Hayden Assisted Living Facility is hosting a Holiday Supper at the community center attached to the building. The meal is free, and chili and desserts will be served.

The fourth annual Hayden Holiday Stroll is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Hayden Granary owner Tammie Delaney is one of several people helping to organize the free event.

“It takes a community to make it happen,” Delaney said.

Hayrides will be offered between the Granary and the Hayden Heritage Center. Chestnuts will be roasted over an open fire, and Santa is expected to attend. Members of the Hayden Congregational Church are organizing craft projects.

Other downtown businesses are also getting into the holiday spirit and hoping residents shop local. Participating businesses will be offering specials and treats.

“It just encourages people to check out what’s here in town,” Delaney said.

On Sunday, the Friends of the Christmas Tree Auction will be held at the Routt County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

Auction items will include decorated wreaths, trees and centerpieces created by area youth groups and service organizations. Proceeds benefit youth and service organizations, including Girl Scouts, 4-H groups, Love Inc. and Routt County CattleWomen, among others. Doors open at 1 p.m., and the auction will start at 1:30 p.m.
