Wednesday at the Routt County Fair

Tom Ross

If there’s such a thing as a show-off pig, you’ll find him at the Routt County Fair late this afternoon as the “swine showmanship” competition takes place from 4 to 6 p.m.

The market swine class runs from 6 to 7 p.m.

Some of the best horseback riders ages 10 and younger, right up to 40 and older, will put their skills on display this evening during the open gymkhana event, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Events include barrel racing, pole bending (like a slalom ski race on horseback) and a stake race.

Youngsters ages 3 to 8 who want to take part in the rough and tumble action of Saturday morning’s mutton bustin’ event should sign up at the fair office in Hayden by 5 p.m. today.
