Steamboat Springs — U.S. Postal Service officials announced Tuesday that they will delay closing any post offices until May 15.
In Routt County, the Phippsburg Post Office already has been notified of its impending closure, and the Toponas Post Office is in the midst of the review and feedback process to determine its future.
Phippsburg and Toponas are just two of more than 80 post offices statewide and 3,700 across the country that are facing closure as the Postal Service looks to make up for a $10 billion deficit.
While the closing of the Phippsburg Post Office will not occur until May 15, U.S. Postal Service officials said in the news release that they will continue the review process — like that in Toponas — in the interim.
"The Postal Service hopes this period will help facilitate the enactment of comprehensive postal legislation," the release stated.
