Town Challenge resumes July 26

John F. Russell

— Mountain bike racers will have to wait one more week before the Town Challenge Series resumes.

The next race on the schedule, the Sunshine cross-country race, will take place July 26 at the Steamboat Ski Area. It will end a three-week break since the last race, held at Howelsen Hill on July 5.

The reason for the break is that a John Hiatt concert is scheduled for Wednesday night at the ski area.

Because the trails used for the race will be blocked in places, the mountain bike series promoters decided to wait a week before holding the next event.

This will be the fourth race in the eight-race series. Racing normally takes place every other week at either the ski area or Howelsen Hill.

The Steamboat races have been drawing as many as 200 racers per event. Riders may preregister before noon on Wednesday the week of the race for a reduced cost of $10. Racers may also register at the race site for $15 per race.
