— It was a busy weekend on courts near and far for Steamboat tennis players.

In Steamboat Springs, 312 players swarmed to courts all across town in the 21st annual Steamboat NTRP Championships. It was the second largest tournament the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs has ever hosted, behind only the NTRP's 2005 tourney.

In Denver, meanwhile, the city's junior tennis team competed at the Junior Team Tennis State Championships, scoring a number of high finishes.

Charlie Smith, Nolen Connell and Ethan Paulus helped lead the squad in the boys 14 and under division. They placed first in their division and made the tournament semifinals.

The 14 and under girls team with Noelle Cerone, Lily Fox and Annika Fahrner and the boys 12 and under team with Andy Schuiling, Wyatt Stempel, Theo Holdeman and Nate Holdeman both placed second in their respective divisions.

"I could not be more proud of our young players' work ethic and sportsmanship," Loretta Conway said in an email. "All 10 juniors represented our city well."
