Swim team makes a splash on Front Range

The Steamboat Springs Swim Team thrived last weekend at a swim meet in Thorton, logging plenty of high finishes and qualifying two swimmers to advance.
The meet, a CUDA/STARS competition, featured 16 local swimmers. Carissa Anderson and Sam Terranova stood out from that pack, each earning a chance to advance and swim at the zone meet, the next step beyond state.
"All the kids, we had so many great swims," coach Patti Worsley said. "All of the kids dropped times. It was just really exciting to see how well they performed."
Terranova, 16, made the zone meet in a whooping six different events. Anderson, meanwhile, swam her best race of the season in the 100-meter fly, shocking the field and punching her ticket, as well.
"She was just really determined and got to the time she needed," Worsley said. "She really gave it everything she had."
Another of the top local performers was Jenna Smith, 10. She finished with the second-most points in her division, thanks to six first-place finishes in her races.

"They really were up to the challenge with all those fast kids from the clubs in Denver," Worsley said. "It was exciting to see."
