Storm gives Steamboat’s September rain total a boost
September 27, 2012
Steamboat Springs — On Thursday morning, Art Judson measured 0.05 inches of rain at his measuring station between downtown Steamboat Springs and the mountain, bringing his total for September to 0.91 inches.
The storm system that has passed over Steamboat this week brought Storm Peak’s first snow and more than doubled the month’s precipitation total. On Monday, after seeing 0.01 inches of rain, Judson’s station had measured 0.43 inches for September.
Steamboat was forecast to receive more showers Thursday afternoon and evening with a slight chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, as well. As Sunday’s forecast is for sunny skies, it would take heavy showers on Thursday and Saturday to reach the monthly average of 2.19 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
