Stolen car recovered, but investigation still ongoing

— Steamboat Springs police still are investigating the Sunday night theft of a 2010 silver Subaru Outback that was left unlocked with the keys inside. The car was found Monday morning.

Police Capt. Joel Rae said the Outback was reported stolen at 7:40 a.m. Monday from the 1500 block of Meadow Lane. He said a man told police that his son parked the unlocked car in the driveway about 7 p.m. Sunday with the keys inside.

At 8:45 a.m., Rae said the man reported finding the car in a parking lot near Village Drive and Walton Creek Road with the keys still inside. He said the owner intends to pursue vehicle theft charges.

The car theft is the fourth in Steamboat since July 30. A motorcycle was reported stolen Aug. 26 during the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, but police determined it was a civil matter.
