Steamboat’s Paley 2nd at World Cup Telemark event

Steamboat Springs Telemark skier Lorin Paley earned her second podium at a World Cup stop in GranPallars Espot, Spain, finishing second Sunday in a Telemark classic event.

Amelie Reymond, who has dominated the women's tour, won the event in 2 minutes, 9.32 seconds. Paley slid into second at 2:12.73 and Sandrine Meyer was third in 2:14.60.

Paley was the only American finisher in the race.

"As the women's race started, the wind swirled, putting the gates on the ground for one racer and sticking them in the face of the next. I started in some good wind, skied pretty well, jumped far, and tried to stay aerodynamic in the flats," Paley said in an e-mail. "The first half of the skate was easy, then it double backed on itself to a huge uphill. I was the only girl to maintain V2, getting the fastest skate split by a second! Combined with the ski, I took second only to the formidable/invincible Amelie Reymond!"
