Steamboat’s Joy Rasmussen set for triathlon world championships

Steamboat Springs — Joy Rasmussen has accomplished as much or more than most triathletes could ever dream of. She's raced around the country, and even made the trip to Hawaii for the biggest event in the sport.
So, she didn't set out for a 70.3 Ironman race in Miami last year with anything to prove. But it turns out that's exactly what she did.
Rasmussen won her age division in the event, crossing the finish line first by more than an hour. That feat earned her a ticket to the 70.3 Ironman set for Sept. 9 in Las Vegas.
"I had no idea how well I had done," she said about last year’s Miami race, citing on-course difficulties with keeping track of the competitors in her division.
"I surprised myself," she said.
She initially didn't plan to take advantage of the spot in Vegas, but she was encouraged to do so and has spent the past year training with that race in mind. She has four triathlons on her schedule this year.
