For the first time in years, the Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team marched into Palisade's gym and stole a win.

The Sailors won the match in three games, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-21. Steamboat head coach Wendy Hall said Palisade was in a "rebuilding year" after losing six seniors from the 2012 squad.

"They are definitely in a rebuilding year, which is unusual with them," Hall said. "They were senior loaded last year. Normally, when you have two or three starting seniors a year, the turnover is really smooth, but Palisade had six starting seniors last year."

Hall was impressed by her team's balanced attack, nonetheless.

"I was really pleased with our girls' focus," Hall said. "We got behind in both the second and third sets and had to come back. That was good."

Hall said Mikaila Jegtvig had probably her best match of the year with six kills on 12 attempts. Maddie Robertson and Jenna Miller once again commanded the net, recording six kills apiece.

Steamboat will stay the night in Palisade and hit the road Saturday to take on Delta for a 1 p.m. game.
