Steamboat tennis tops Evergreen

Ethan Paulus chases down a ball Friday as the Steamboat Springs High School boys tennis team played at home against Evergreen. Paulus, playing No. 1 singles, went on to win the match and the Sailors came through, as well, winning four of the night’s seven matches to take it, 4-3. Steamboat’s on the court at home again Saturday as a part of its only homestand of the season. The Sailors will play at noon at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs against Fruita Monument. The team then plays one more time at home on Tuesday, at 1 p.m. against Aspen and 5 p.m. against Vail Mountain. Wyatt Stempel at No. 2 singles also won Friday, as did John Hannahway and Luke Borgerding at No. 1 doubles and Will Coon and Bridger Boyd at No. 3 doubles.

The Steamboat Springs High School tennis team started off a four-dual homestand with a victory Friday, beating Evergreen, 4-3.

The Sailors got wins from Ethan Paulus at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, Wyatt Stempel at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-4; John Hannahway and Luke Borgerding at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2, and Will Coon and Bridger Boyd at No. 3 doubles, 7-6(3), 6-4.
