Steamboat teen suspected of threatening to post explicit pictures of former girlfriend on Internet

Matt Stensland

— An 18-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child, a felony.

According to Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Rich Brown, the man’s 17-year-old former girlfriend told police the man had sexually explicit pictures of her on his cellphone, and he had threatened to post them on the Internet.

In a separate incident last week, Brown said the former girlfriend agreed to meet with the man about possibly getting back together. During the meeting, she got upset and drove away, and he followed her. The former boyfriend reportedly bumped her car while driving. He was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment, felony stalking, violation of a protection order, violation of bond conditions and harassment. He was released from custody after posting a $1,500 bond.

The Routt County District Attorney’s Office had not filed charges as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today does not typically identify those accused of sex crimes until they have been convicted.
