Steamboat takes 2nd at Soroco Middle School wrestling tourney

Soroco's Jace Logan wrestles Blake Nelson of Moffat County Middle School in the championship match of the 110-pound bracket Saturday at a wrestling tournament in Oak Creek. Logan won the match, 17-0.

— A busy weekend of middle school wrestling featured strong finishes by the Steamboat Springs Middle School squad as well as wrestlers from Soroco and Hayden.

The Sailors finished second in a tournament at Soroco, behind Craig.

Lance Bryant helped lead Steamboat, winning his division at 120 pounds. Spencer Mader at 100, Miles Buchan at 130, R.J. Wilhelm at 135 and Hayden Johnson at 145 all placed second. Mac Rinker at 105 pounds, meanwhile, placed third.

Soroco got a pair of championships wrestling on its home mats. Gene Bracegridle won at 75 pounds, as did Jace Logan at 110.

The Rams also got third-place finishes from Blake Madera at 125 and Sky Carlson at 135 and a fourth-place showing from Dalton Ray at 135 pounds.

Hayden had a trio of second-place finishers: David Fatjo at 75 pounds, Jacob Planansky at 80 and Daylon Frentress at 85. Keyen Camilletti was third at 145 pounds, and Lebo Armenderiz was third in the heavyweight division. Hunter Planansky, 95, Mason Brewer, 100, and Reece Kern, 105, all were fourth.
