Steamboat Springs snowboarders qualify for finals at Grand Prix
January 30, 2013
Steamboat Springs — Snowboarder Taylor Gold was the lone male rider from Steamboat Springs to qualify for the finals of the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix in Park City.
Gold was the top qualifier in his heat, registering an 81.5 on his second run. Fellow Steamboat Springs snowboarders Benji Farrow and Matt Ladley didn't make the finals. Farrow just missed out on qualifying, and Ladley didn't start after suffering a minor concussion in a freak accident last week at the X Games in Aspen.
Arielle Gold, fresh off a bronze in the X Games super-pipe, continued her hot streak as one of the six girls to advance to the finals. Gold was the top qualifier in Heat 2, and her score of 84.3 in her first run was the third highest of the day.
Steamboat's Maddy Schaffrick didn't start Wednesday.
The half-pipe finals begin at 11 a.m. Friday.
