Steamboat Springs Running Series returns Saturday
May 17, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The second event in the Steamboat Springs Running Series takes place Saturday.
The 2013 Spirit Challenge will serve as a fundraising event for the Yampa Valley Autism Program.
It features 5- and 10-kilometer races and begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Steamboat Springs Middle School.
Registration is available here. Preregistration is $25. Day-of registration begins at 8 a.m. and is $30.
"It's one of our last races where we have short distances," Race Director Cara Marrs said. "They all kind of go up. It's one of the few 5K and 10K races we have in the series."
As of Thursday afternoon, there were 60 people registered.
Last year, Roberto Mandje won the 5-kilometer race in 17 minutes, 3 seconds. Emily Hannah was the top female in 20:33.
Asher Rhode won the men's 10K in 36:27, and Marietta Roberts won the women's in 48:45.
Marrs recommended those doing the Steamboat full or half-marathons to do it as part of training.
Anyone interested in volunteering should email Marrs at firstname.lastname@example.org.
