Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team picks up win
March 21, 2013
Steamboat Springs — It's been a year of firsts for the Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team.
After the team picked up its first win since the program restarted in 2010, the Sailors on Thursday actually dictated a game and did whatever they wanted.
The end result was an 11-3 win at Eagle Valley.
"It's funny, because the weather was gnarly when we left," Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said. "The drive through Toponas, it was snowing and I was thinking it was going to be bad. When we got there, it was beautiful. I just had a good vibe. We had a great week of practice."
Steamboat jumped out to a 9-0 first-half lead, controlling the tempo throughout.
"We controlled the passing and the plays," Frick said.
Senior Nikki Fry led the attack, pouring in five goals. Aleigh Aurin had four goals, and Jessie Wallace and Emily Spiess each had one.
Dani Flax chipped in an assist, McKenzie Repollo had five first-half saves and Alex English had two saves in the second half during her first game of action.
The team, 2-3 overall, next plays Rampart at 11 a.m. at home Saturday.
