Steamboat Springs Alpine teams pick up wins
January 17, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls and boys Alpine teams each won slalom events Thursday in Beaver Creek.
Steamboat senior Suzanne Lyon won her second straight event. For the boys, Peter White was second, and Andreas Foulk was third.
It’s the third straight win for the girls team and the second for the boys in three events.
"This year, we have a really strong team," said Foulk, who was in fourth after his first run and moved up a spot in the second run. "A lot of the guys have been building up. We've had great coaching and a great group of kids this year."
Lyon was in second after her first run by more than a second. But after the course change, she took advantage.
The second course was faster without as many turns, and Lyon more than made up the difference.

"The second course wasn't nearly as turny," she said. "The second course, there was more space between the gates to let your skis run."
The Alpine team next competes Jan. 25 in a giant slalom event in Aspen.
