Steamboat, Soroco shine at Battle Mountain track meet

— Steamboat Springs High School middle-distance runner Alexandra Tumminello led the way for Routt County high school track athletes Tuesday at a meet at Battle Mountain. Tumminello shined in her best race, the 800-meter run, finishing third.

The Sailors had a pile of other top-10 finishes. Lena Barker was seventh in the 400, Sawyer Gander seventh in the triple jump, Seana Harker eighth in the 100 and Sedona Lewis 10th in the 200.

On the boys side, the team placed a trio of relays in the top 10. The boys distance medley relay was the best, finishing fourth. The 800 relay was fifth and the 1,600 relay seventh.

Soroco attended the same meet and had plenty of success, as well.

Two of the top individual performances came on the boys side, where Bjorn Carlson was fifth in the high jump and Ryan Jeep fifth in the shot put. The boys also fielded successful relay teams. The 3,200 relay was second, the 1,600 relay was fourth, and the 400 relay was seventh.

Cassie Constine had a strong meet headlined by a fourth-place finish in the triple jump. She was also ninth in the 400. Kali Constine was 10th in that race and sixth in the high jump. Alexendrea Bryant, throwing discus, and Jessica Rossi, in the shot put, both got on the board with fifth-place finishes. Hayley Johnson ran to seventh in the 100, and DaKota Bruner was 10th in the long jump.

On the relay front, the girls had three strong finishes, placing third in the 3,200 and 1,600 relays and fourth in the 400 relay.
