Steamboat soccer survives at Eagle Valley

Steamboat Springs High School girls soccer coach Rob Bohlmann summed it up in four words better than anyone could in 1,000.

"We got through it," he said.

The Sailors traveled to play at Eagle Valley and came away with a 5-4 victory. It wasn't pretty, especially considering that the Devils, now at 2-5 on the season, weren't expected to compete with Steamboat, 3-1. But, it counts.

Steamboat led by two goals on three occasions, first after going up 2-0 on a pair of goals from Katie Arnis. Eagle Valley battled back, however, and the score was 2-2 at halftime. Steamboat answered with two more goals, a quick rebound from Ali Pougiales off a Natalie Bohlmann shot. Gabriel Bohlmann added a goal before another strike from Pougiales made it 5-3, with about 10 minutes remaining.

Eagle Valley had one final surge, cutting it to 5-4, but Steamboat held on.

"Defensively, we were just very inconsistent," Rob Bohlmann said. "We lacked the communication. We were very reactive, not sliding. We just weren't on the same page. … That inconsistency reflected our play over the whole 80 minutes."
