Steamboat Ski Area opening 49 trails in 48 hours

Staff Report
Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. embarked on a new chapter in its 54-year history in April with the news that it, with the other resorts owned by Intrawest would be purchased by a new company being formed by KSL Capital Partners, LLC, owners of the Squaw Valley, and the Henry Crown Family, which owns ski resorts in Aspen.  The sale price was about $1.5 billion.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Ski Area has opened 49 trails and more than 1,200 acres of skiing and riding terrain over a 48-hour period, resort officials announced in a news release Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the ski area opened Sunshine, Bar-UE and South Peak lifts, providing access to Tomahawk, one of the resort’s most popular runs, in addition to 29 other trails. With the Sunshine and Sundown lifts open, First Tracks will return to this area for early-morning access.

On Wednesday, the ski area plans to open expert terrain off the top of Mount Werner, including the Chutes, Christmas Tree Bowl, North St. Pats, East Face, First Chance, Last Chance, Flying Z, Vertigo and Valley View. Rabbit Ears Terrain Park is expected to open Thursday.

With the additional openings, the resort now boasts 127 trails on more than 2,000 acres accessed by 14 lifts.

The mountain operations team now will focus on opening the Pony Express area and work to get the resort 100 percent open as soon as possible. Find the most updated information on open lifts and trails at steamboat.com/snow.
