Steamboat Sailors’ Keegan Burger wins tennis tournament

Luke Graham

— Steamboat Springs High School junior Keegan Burger won the 18-and-under Rolling Hills Junior Indoor Open tennis tournament in Golden during the weekend.

Burger, who played No. 2 singles for the Sailors in the fall, cruised through the bracket and didn't drop a set.

Also competing at the tournament from Steamboat were Max Roder, Tamy Katthain, and Teague and Tatum Burger.

Keegan had an interesting and exhausting tournament. The tournament originally was scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was postponed a day. That meant after advancing through Saturday's early rounds, Keegan came back to Steamboat for prom Saturday, before returning to the tournament at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

He defeated No. 1 seed Chris Schommer, 6-1, 6-2, in the finals.

His next tournament is Saturday and Sunday at the Boulder Open.
