Steamboat police trying to ID man and woman who stole $5,700 worth of bikes

The Steamboat Springs Police Department is hoping the public can help identify a man and woman who were captured on video last month stealing two expensive bicycles in broad daylight from a local bike shop.

The bikes, a neon green men's Specialized Enduro FSR Comp 29er and a women's Specialized Camber FSR Comp 650b, have a combined value of $5,700.

The unknown man and woman took the bikes from Ski Haus while it was open June 17.

"It appears they were working together," Police Commander Annette Dopplick said of the man and woman.

The theft occurred about 2:15 p.m. during a mountain bike dirt demo event at the store.

Dopplick said Ski Haus discovered the thefts by reviewing surveillance video.

Anyone with information that might lead to the bikes and the individuals who took them can call Crime Stoppers at 970-870-6226.

A $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to the return of the bicycles.

Tips can be made anonymously.

Tips can also be called to local police by calling 970-879-1144.

Dopplick urged anyone who is buying a bicycle on Craigslist or any other website to proceed with caution.

"You can certainly have an officer help you check to see if the item is reported stolen," she said.
