Steamboat Springs — A group of nine Steamboat Springs Police Department officers got doused with water Thursday for a good cause.
The officers were raising money for the Officer Down Memorial, a nonprofit that pays tribute to members of law enforcement who have died.
The Steamboat officers were challenged by their friends at other Colorado police departments.
“They’ve been doing these on the Front Range,” Sgt. John McCartin said.
The officers who participated were McCartin, Sgt. Jeff Wilson, Ross Blank, Brady Suppeland, Matt Conley, Kiel Petkoff, Blake Ingerick, Jon Laundy and Brent Hunstad.
With help from Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue, water was poured over the officers from a ladder truck.
As part of the challenge, officers had to donate $10 to get soaked.
“If you don’t do it, and you get challenged, you have to give $100,” McCartin said.
He said they raised about $100 and the Steamboat department was going to challenge the Craig Police Department and Routt County Sheriff’s Office to participate in the fundraiser next.
