Steamboat Pilot & Today wins 23 awards

— The Steamboat Pilot & Today took home 23 awards at the an­­nu­al Colo­rado Associated Press Edi­tors and Reporters news­paper contest banquet Friday night in down­town Denver.

The newspaper took top honors in the public service category for the Steamboat 700 Voter Guide it published in advance of last spring's election on the annexation of the proposed Steamboat 700 development west of the city.

Other first-place winners were: Allison Miriani for informational graphic; Matt Stensland for photo coverage of a continuing story, portrait/personality photo and spot news photo; Joel Reichenberger for photo portfolio and sports story; John F. Russell for sports column; and staff for online breaking news.

The Pilot & Today won second place in the general excellence and online general excellence categories. Other second-place award winners were: Christopher Woytko for informational graphic; Matt Stensland for photo portfolio; Joel Reichenberger for sports photo; Matt Stensland for spot news photo; and staff for editorials and online special package.

Third-place winners were: John F. Russell for feature photo, general news photo and photo portfolio; Mike Lawrence for beat reporting; Nicole Miller for informational graphic; and Joel Reichenberger for sports column.

"I'm so proud of my staff and their accomplishments," Editor Brent Boyer said. "These awards, selected by our peers in The Associated Press' Pennsylvania chapter, are a small but significant recognition of the hard work they do daily on behalf of the community they love."
