The Steamboat Pilot & Today won more than 16 awards during the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters annual awards banquet Friday in Denver.
Veteran reporter and photographer John Russell won four awards, including first-place plaques in the general news photo and photo portfolio categories. Reporter and photographer Matt Stensland also picked up four awards, including first place for a photo illustration that published with the Pilot & Today's "SmartWool's Ride" series.
Other first-place awards included former reporter Mike Lawrence's beat coverage of the Brooks Kellogg murder-for-hire case, and breaking news coverage on SteamboatToday.com.
"It's an honor to be recognized by our peers in the industry for the work we do on a daily basis," Pilot & Today Editor Brent Boyer said. "I couldn't be more proud of the hard-working team of reporters, photographers, editors and designers who dedicate themselves to serving our community."
The Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters awards contest is judged annually by Associated Press member newspapers in Pennsylvania. The Pilot & Today is judged against other Colorado newspapers with daily circulations of 15,000 or less.
