Steamboat Pilot & Today wins 15 Associated Press awards

Steamboat Today

— The Steamboat Pilot & Today won 15 awards at the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters annual banquet Friday night in downtown Denver.

The newspaper's awards were highlighted by reporter/photographer Scott Franz's first-place wins for Portrait/Personality Photo and Beat Coverage. Franz shared the Beat Coverage award with fellow reporter Tom Ross for their reporting on oil and gas issues in Routt County.

The Pilot & Today won second place in the General Excellence and Online General Excellence categories. The Durango Herald took first place in both categories.

"To be recognized by our peers for the consistent quality of journalism performed by the writers, photographers and designers at the Steamboat Pilot & Today is truly an honor," Editor Brent Boyer said. "These awards are a tribute not only to our hard-working journalists, but to the community we represent."

The Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters awards contest is judged annually by Associated Press member newspapers in Pennsylvania. The Pilot & Today is judged against other Colorado newspapers with daily circulations of 15,000 or fewer.

The awards banquet is part of the annual Colorado Press Association convention at the Westin Denver Downtown Hotel. The convention continues Saturday with a CPA awards banquet.
