Steamboat mountain bike team rides well in Leadville

— Sprints to the finish line gave Sunday to the Steamboat Springs High School mountain bike team, and sprints to the finish took.

The squad picked up a win in the sophomore boys race when Koby Vargas, second throughout the Leadville race, made a dash for the finish line. He caught his opponent and passed him, winning the race by 0.11 seconds.

"It was really exciting, a sprint finish," coach Blair Seymour said.

Jett Seymour, meanwhile, finished second in the freshman boys race, exactly on the other side of the equation. He led much of the race and was passed on the final surge to the finish line.

First or second, it was a strong performance and one of many the Steamboat team registered on the day.

Evan Barbier was fourth in the same freshman boys race. Simon Zink was seventh in the sophomore boys race, Peter Myller was 19th and Tristan Fischer was 27th.
