Steamboat Lake swim beach reopens
July 23, 2010
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Lake swim beach reopened this morning after closing for two days because of higher than acceptable levels of E. coli.
The lake closed Wednesday after E. coli levels exceeded 235 organisms per 100 milliliters.
Park rangers hoped to have the lake open Wednesday, but a second test wasn’t done in time. The original test Wednesday showed high levels of E. Coli most likely because the test was done when high winds were blowing into the beach, park rangers said. This concentrated the particles in the area.
The swim beach and all other activities at Steamboat Lake will be open through the weekend.
