Steamboat hockey cruises again in Pueblo County
January 14, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Any frustrations from a tough first half of the season seem to be dissipating for the Steamboat Springs High School hockey team.
After beating Aspen, 8-2, on Friday, Steamboat traveled to Pueblo County on Saturday and shellacked its host.
Steamboat got goals from nine players in skating away with a 15-2 win. Scoring one goal each for the Sailors were Christian Ramirez, Tyler Scott, Jace Worden, Lance Ostrom and Bubba Ivers. Ben Wharton, Jackson Perry and Bobby Elliott each scored two goals. Sophomore Matt Hale dumped in four goals.
"I was really happy with the way our guys responded after" Friday, Steamboat coach Jeff Ruff said. "We came out and moved our feet. We wanted to set the tempo, and they couldn't keep up with our speed."
Steamboat led, 6-1, after one period and 10-2 after the second.
Steamboat (6-5) next plays at 3 p.m. Saturday at home against Battle Mountain.
