Steamboat Golf Shoot-Out still helping after 10 years

Organizers say money raised from the 10th annual Steamboat Golf Shoot-Out tournament will support the development of top junior golfers in the Yampa Valley.

— A longtime community fundraiser to support junior golf programs in Steamboat Springs is looking forward to its 10th year.

The Steamboat Golf Shoot-Out tournament is scheduled for June 4 at Catamount Ranch & Club. The money raised at the tournament will be used by the Steamboat Junior Golf Association to fund local junior programs, help the high school team with unfunded expenses, and establish scholarships for worthy high school graduates.

"Without this tournament we would struggle with raising enough funds to support not only the high school programs, but junior golf programs at all four golf courses," said Steve Dodson, Steamboat Springs High School's golf coach.

For each of the event's 10 years, Catamount Ranch & Club has opened its doors to host the tournament. Dodson thanked the staff and members at the private club for the opportunity.

"This tournament provides a rare opportunity to get together with friends and play the fabulous Catamount Ranch & Club course," he said.

The cost to play in the tournament is $135 per player. The tournament format is a modified two-person, best-ball with four-player teams. Dodson said players typically register as part of a team, but he said individuals can register and will be grouped with other individuals to form a team.

Team prizes and individual hole prizes will be awarded, and auction items also will be offered as part of the tournament. Registration begins at 10 a.m. June 4 and will be followed by a shotgun start at noon. Lunch will be provided.

"This tournament provides financial assistance to junior programs throughout the Yampa Valley," Dodson said. "Thanks to our following in the community that has supported us, we've managed to stay afloat and help out with other causes along the way."
