Steamboat girls lacrosse places 3 on all-league team

— Three Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse players were named to the 2013 Mountain all-league team Friday.

Leading the way for the Sailors was a pair of first-team selections.

Seniors Nikki Fry and Jessie Wallace were named to the 15-player first team. Wallace had 11 goals, three assists, 43 ground balls, nine interceptions and 12 takeaways. Fry led the team in most categories and was near the top of Class 4A in many. She had 51 goals, two assists, 49 ground balls, 15 interceptions and 18 takeaways.

Emily Spiess was named honorable mention. Spiess added 14 goals, two assists, 20 ground balls, four interceptions and 10 takeaways.

The Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team finished the season 6-9, including picking up the team's first win since the program was restarted in 2010.

Girls lacrosse teams to meet Saturday

Steamboat girls lacrosse will host several high school and middle school games Saturday at Gardner Field.

Teams from Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyo., will attend as well as a team from Vail.

Steamboat plays Laramie at 10 a.m. and Cheyenne at 11:15 a.m. Beginning at 2 p.m. the middle school teams will take the field.

Steamboat's middle school teams play Cheyenne at 2 p.m. and Vail at 4 p.m.
