Steamboat girls JV lacrosse falls to Fruita, 9-7

Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls junior varsity lacrosse team lost, 9-7, to Fruita on Thursday.
Playing at Berry Creek Middle School on a field that had been aerated, the Sailors battled windy and cold conditions.
The two teams traded early goals, before Fruita eventually took a 5-4 halftime lead.
The Sailors battled back early in the second half before the Wildcats put it away late in the game.
Aleigh Aurin led the way for Steamboat with three goals, and Emily Spiess added two. Nastassija Voyich scored her first goal of the season, and Nikki Fry added one.
The team next plays April 26 at home against Eagle Valley's junior varsity.
