Steamboat Fire Rescue busy with calls Thursday

— Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue emergency responders juggled multiple calls Thursday afternoon, and at one point, off-duty firefighters were called to help.

Within about a two-hour period, Steamboat Fire Rescue Lt. Michael Arce said the department responded to a fire alarm on Buffalo Pass, a motorcycle accident on Rabbit Ears Pass, a single-car rollover on Routt County Road 44, a highly intoxicated person and a woman who was hurt when she fell off her horse on Emerald Mountain.

"It definitely stretched us to our limit," Arce said.

The alarm on Buffalo Pass turned out to be a false alarm, which allowed Arce to call off the help from off-duty firefighters.

The motorcycle accident was about 12 miles east from the base of Rabbit Ears Pass on U.S. Highway 40. A man in his 60s was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center with road rash and other minor injuries.

Two people also were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the car they were in rolled down an embankment on C.R. 44.

The intoxicated person also was taken to the hospital.

Routt County Search and Rescue volunteers were called to rescue the woman who fell off the horse on Emerald. She was then taken to the hospital with a suspected pelvic injury and possibly broken ribs, Arce said.
