Steamboat figure skaters show well in Fort Collins

Steamboat Springs — Seven skaters from the Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club competed at the Fort Collins Classic at the Edora Pool Ice Center last weekend.
Nine judges from seven states judged 240 competitors ranging from beginner to senior levels during a four-day period. The highlight of the competition for Steamboat's club was a first-place finish by Clare Franklin and Cassie Wilhelm in the Artistic Duet event. They performed the "Popular" number from the musical "Wicked" and now are eligible to compete on the national level.
Franklin also brought home first place in the compulsory event at the pre-juvenile level. Tasha Getten, a seventh-grader at Lowell Whiteman Primary School, won first place in the compulsory event at the beginner 5 level.
Clare, a freshman at Steamboat Springs High School, also placed fourth in spins and third in free skate at the pre-juvenile level. Cassie, also a freshman, placed third in compulsory and eighth in free skate. Patricia Dave, an eighth-grader at Steamboat Springs Middle School, placed second in compulsory, ninth in free skate and fifth in spins in the open pre-juvenile level.
Jordan Broyhill, a fourth-grader at Soda Creek Elementary School, placed third in compulsory and second in free skate at the pre-preliminary level and third in spins at the preliminary level.

Gillian Cook, a seventh-grader at Steamboat Springs Middle School, placed fourth in compulsory and free skate in the pre-preliminary level and fourth in spins in the preliminary level.
On Sunday, Mariah Walker, a seventh-grader, and Tasha Getten competed at the beginner 5 level. Mariah brought home in third in compulsory and fourth in free skate while Tasha finished second in free skate.
Also competing Sunday was 3-year-old Tatum Bisnette. She had a spectacular warmup for her free skate at the tot level but declined to step on the ice during the competitive portion.
The skaters now will participate in an abbreviated April and May practice schedule and then will begin summer training in late June. The next competition is scheduled for July in Vail. For more information about the figure skating program, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
