Steamboat could see some rain before weekend

Steamboat Today

— Steamboat Springs could see some showers or thunderstorms Wednesday evening, but the main part of the approaching storm should hit the area Thursday.

Meteorologist Dennis Phillips with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction said the bulk of the precipitation will be in southern Colorado but could filter north as the storm moves through. He said the main concern for Steamboat is that cloud cover might limit convection and result in less rain.

After the storm passes Friday, another trough will move into the Northwest and the ridge will build back up and bring clear skies and higher than typical temperatures for Steamboat through the weekend and into the beginning of next week, Phillips said. “Models show moisture trying to return as the ridge starts to get flattened by the next trough late next week,” he said.
