Steamboat bus, motorcyclist collide

Pilot & Today Staff

— A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital early Wednesday evening after being hit by a Steamboat Springs Transit bus at Walton Creek Road and Village Drive.

The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m.

Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Rich Brown said the bus was driving south on Village Drive, and it pulled into the intersection after stopping at a stop sign. The motorcyclist was traveling west on Walton Creek Road and hit the bike rack on the front of the bus. The motorcyclist did not have a stop sign.

The motorcyclist was lying on the ground, then got up and moved to the side of the road. He was alert and answering questions, Brown said, before being taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Routt County Communications radio traffic indicated that the man was not wearing a helmet.

A witness said the driver of the motorcycle was Steamboat Springs resident Aryeh Copa. Police confirmed that. Police would not identify the bus driver.
