Steamboat briefs: Yoga Center of Steamboat holding 8-week course

The Yoga Center of Steamboat is holding an eight-week course on meditation and Ayurveda from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 11. Ayurveda is an ancient and comprehensive health care system that provides a complete approach to healthy living for the body and mind, according to a news release. No experience is necessary to attend the class. Asters on sale to benefit Northwest Colorado VNA

Asters are on sale to benefit the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association's hospice program. The VNA's Hospice and Palliative Care program helps more than 300 kids grieve the loss of a loved one each year in Steamboat Springs and Craig, according to a news release.

Library to host a 4-day training for Spellbinders

Spellbinders, a group that is dedicated to restoring the art of oral storytelling to connect elders to youths, is holding a four-day training in September for interested volunteers.

The training will be led by certified storyteller Ruthmary Allison from the Mesa County chapter of Spellbinders. The workshop is limited to 10 participants, and registration is required by emailing Youth Services Librarian Sarah Kostin at by Sunday.

Training times are from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19, 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 and 3 p.m. Sept. 28. The cost is $30.

Sponsors are needed for this year's Festival of Trees

The Tread of Pioneers Museum is hosting the annual Festival of Trees from Nov. 16 to 25 at the museum, and sponsors are needed for the fundraising event, according to a news release. The cost to sponsor a tree is $500, which supports the museum and provides funds for sustaining preservation and educational activities. Workshop about winning sales calls is on Sept. 26

A workshop about how to build winning sales calls is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 in Conference Room 127 at the Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center. The class will cover how to make every sales call count, control the flow of every sales call, avoid bad surprises in the call and fit each sales call into an overall account plan. The class will be led by Andy Blackstone, who is a sales executive and consultant as well as the author of "Small Changes." The class is $10, and registration is required to 970-870-4491.

New members invited to join Yampa Valley Singers

Children's Book Feast is at library, Depot Art Center

The second annual Children's Book Feast, hosted by Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs, will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the library and the Depot Art Center. According to a news release, the all-day literary arts events promotes literacy, books, reading and art for school-age children.

Dynamic presentations and storytelling performances will take place in Library Hall throughout the day with a break for lunch available at MountainBrew. At the same time, workshops for budding writers, musicians and artists ages 8 and older will be held at the Depot. Two adult/teacher workshops also will be available. This year's lineup includes all Rocky Mountain resident artists, including Steve Jenkins, Paul Taylor, Claudia Mills, Kathleen Pelley, Jeannie Mobley and local author Dagny McKinley.

Tickets are available online at Cost is $7 for general admission, which includes presentations in Library Hall and $10 for each special workshop with three of the visiting artists.
