Orchestra registration and scholarship forms available
The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra Spring Education Programs for violin, cello and flute is open for enrollment. Classes begin in March, and musicians will perform "Together in Concert" at 7 p.m. April 4. Registration forms are available at http://www.steamboatorchestra.org or at the Depot Art Center. Scholarship applications are due today, and registration forms are due Thursday.
Boys & Girls Club will be open during Blues Break
The Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during Blues Break from Feb. 18 to 22. Each day will feature a dress-up color theme, fields trips and outdoor winter activities. The cost is $1 per hour, per child with membership. Hayden peewee wrestling registration deadline Friday
A Hayden peewee wrestling camp for children ages 3 to 5 is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday from Feb. 26 to March 8 at the Routt County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. The cost for the camp is $25, and registration is required by Friday.
Steamboat Great Outdoors to host fishing tournament
Steamboat Great Outdoors will host an ice fishing tournament from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Stagecoach Reservoir. Registration is $25 for adults, free for youths, and a parks pass is required. Xcel reminds customers to be aware of utility scams
Xcel Energy is reminding customers in a news release to be aware of scams to obtain payments for fraudulent utility bills.
Often, the caller will impersonate an Xcel representative and will tell the customer an outstanding debt must be paid through the use of prepaid cash cards, credit cards or personal checks, or that a bill was overpaid and the balance can be credited if the customer provides account information over the phone, according to the release.
Customers should report incidents to Xcel at 1-800-895-4999. The company also provides information about how to identify scams at http://www.xcelenergy.com.
Registration is open for Pentathlon on March 9
Registration is open for the Steamboat Pentathlon on March 9. The multisport race includes Alpine skiing, showshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and running. Standard and short courses are available for teams or individuals. The cost is $50 for youths 17 and younger, $100 for adults, $160 for adult duos, $150 for youth teams and $225 for adult teams. Registration is open through March 4, but fees increase by $20 Friday. All racers will receive an event T-shirt and lunch as well as be entered into the prize raffle drawing. Residents can support Meals on Wheels with $1
Routt County residents can support the Council on Aging's Meals on Wheels program by buying a wheel for $1 at the following locations: Ciao Gelato, Bamboo Market, the Steamboat Springs Community Center or the South Routt Community Center. In 2013, the Council on Aging will deliver about 3,000 Meals on Wheels to homebound senior citizens. For more information, call 970-879-0633.
Resident looking for ukulele players to perform in group
Steamboat Springs resident Dan Tyler is looking for ukulele players interested in joining a group that would practice and perform together. Denver's Rocky Mountain Ukulele Orchestra Conductor Gary Jugert has indicated he would travel to Steamboat to help organize the group. Players of all levels and ages are welcome to join.
